- "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion
to duty. While escorting a lone bomber, he attacked two enemy scouts.
As the bomber began his run on a target railyard, the enemy machines, initially intent on
downing the Allied bomber, were forced to defend themselves. On
several occasions the bomber pilot observed the enemy scouts
attempt to disengage in order to pursue the bomber; however, they
were unable to do so before both the railyard and a nearby factory
were destroyed. His example and skillful leadership have been of
great value to his squadron"

- "For
conspicuous gallantry and skill. When on escort duty during a recon
mission, he engaged an enemy machine for approximately 10 minutes,
allowing the recon machine to escape from enemy sight. He eventually
downed the enemy machine, and returned across the front to refuel. He
returned to the recon machine's patrol route to observe the pilot under
attack from another enemy machine. The recon, now escorted by two other
fighters from the 101st Squadron, was carrying a completed recon mission
and quite badly damaged. The two fighters from the 101st engaged the
enemy, and WO Hook1 engaged as well, firing the final rounds to bring
the machine down."
